McQueen at Vogue World

Discover the story behind the custom look designed by Seán McGirr in collaboration with renowned costume designer Colleen Atwood for Vogue World 2025 – 26th October 2025.

Storytelling has long been associated with the house of McQueen. It is a core pillar of the house’s DNA and forms the foundation for many collections, from the house’s origin in the early nineties under Lee Alexander McQueen, to today under the creative direction of Seán McGirr.

For this year’s Vogue World, held at the Paramount Pictures Studios Lot in Hollywood, the cinematic spectacle was themed around the intersection of fashion and film, celebrating cinema’s most inspiring and distinctive characters. Fashion houses and era-defining costume designers were collaborators, recreating some of film’s most iconic costumes, through the contemporary lens of modern fashion design, in a showcase to honour their impact on arts and culture.

McQueen’s connection to theatre and costume is rooted in heritage, as Lee Alexander McQueen’s early career included a year working at Berman's and Nathan's, a theatrical costumier in London that produced pieces for West End productions such as Les Misérables. This experience proved inspirational for McQueen, who referenced historical costume in many early collections.

For Vogue World 2025, McQueen was paired with costume designer Colleen Atwood, who was responsible for the gothic-inspired ensemble worn by Johnny Depp in Tim Burton’s Edward Scissorhands.

Creative Director Seán McGirr chose to reinterpret this piece of cinema history through a modern McQueen lens, with references to the house’s Autumn Winter 2002 collection – a collection which had been largely inspired by the world of Tim Burton, who also collaborated on the show’s dramatic lighting design and hand-drawn invitations.

Created in collaboration with Colleen Atwood, the look for Vogue World 2025 was worn by actress Louisa Jacobson. A belted jacket in black leather with dramatic draped sleeves in black lace, paired with a halterneck dress in black silk creponne, finished with a delicately distressed hem.
