An experiential space has opened on the top floor of the new Alexander McQueen flagship store on London’s Old Bond Street.
The space will host a programme of exhibitions, talks and events aimed specifically at inspiring students from all over the United Kingdom. The first of these – Unlocking Stories – will give open access to the work in process, stories, teamwork and materials which go into the Spring/Summer 2019 collection. From the treasury of ideas and clothes by Lee Alexander McQueen through to the inspiration and creative processes developed organically by Sarah Burton in the studio today.
The installation will offer the first viewing of the unseen behind-the-scenes methods in a multi-layered house. The extension of the retail space and event series are designed to uncover the interwoven threads of the research narratives, tailoring, couture, textiles, embroidery and relationship between the hand and technology, which remain deeply embedded in the clothes and the way they are shown.
The programme is designed to offer new angles and perspectives on the thinking and skills of the army of talents involved in the unique working world of Alexander McQueen. A further programme of events is planned throughout the year, all with a focus on students, with a view to the formation of a creative community.
