Alexander McQueen in Wales

Last summer in Wales.

The diary of an Alexander McQueen creative youth collaboration.

The McQueen design team first went to Wales in 2019 to research the Autumn/Winter 2020 womenswear collection. Sarah Burton and the design team gathered the original research over days spent walking on the Brecon Beacons in South Wales and studying Welsh culture and history at St Fagan’s National Museum in Cardiff. In the summer of 2020, we joined up with a group of young people in the valleys of South Wales to start a creative educational project in the country whose rich landscape and crafts, poetry and literature had inspired Sarah Burton to design the Autumn/Winter 2020 collection.

'We’ve all been inspired through this and touched by the experience of being able to make a practical connection with young people in Wales. Community values and the belief in offering creative opportunities to young people are at the heart of what we believe at Alexander McQueen. This record of what we all learned together last year is a testament to what transformative things can happen everywhere when empowering equal access to creative ideas.'
